Recommended for people with heel spurs and plantar fasciitis December 29, 2009 Carol Roberts (Montgomery, AL United States) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This is an excellent, supportive shoe that helps make walking and prolonged standing much easier for people who suffer from heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis. After wearing this shoe exclusively for several months my heel pain has greatly improved. My podiatrist told me that this brand of shoe is the best for arch support and heel problems and I have to agree, nothing compares. I highly recommend this shoe for anyone who has to be on their feet all day or has heel pain.
I have "hallux rigidus" aka "hallux limitus" and THIS is the shoe for that! :) May 8, 2010 Seesa (Here & Now) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you have "hallux rigidus" (also known as "hallux limitus) which is an arthitic problem in your toes, and need a shoe with ultra motion-control & a very rigid sole, here is your shoe! I also have a bone spur on top of my hallux rigidus big toe, and another bone spur on the back bottom of that same foot, and I LOVE these shoes. They are the Cadillac of the New Balance line, in my opinion, as they have built-in "roll bars" of tough yet VERY comfortable material. These "roll bars" run across the top of the shoe as well as up both sides longways.
They are incredibly comfortable, and I feel very secure walking in them, knowing how well-protected my feet are now. I also have a weak right ankle from having broken it twice in the past, and sometimes it turns easily while just walking along. Now that I wear these shoes everyplace, my ankle hasn't hurt or turned at all while walking, and my toe, which will be operated on in 2 months for the hallux rigidus, isn't able to jam up against the bone behind it due to the SUPERB motion control these shoes have.
I researched high & low for a few weeks online and in stores after my podiatrist gave me a list of recommended shoes, and this 927 model kept coming up in my search for "ultra motion control" & "ultra rigid sole". I read that many New Balance shoes tend to run (no pun intended) a size or 1/2 size smaller than one's regular shoe size. It is TRUE. I found a New Balance store in Bellevue, WA (for those of you in the greater Seattle area). NB Stores in your area can be found on the NB website by simply typing in your zipcode. I DEFINITELY recommend that you take the time to go to a New Balance store first so that you can be fitted in person by a NB specialist who will take the time you need to get the right fit. I'd have had a big headache had I guesstimated and bought these online, as I normally wear a 9-10 shoe (women's American size) & a 40 in Birkenstocks. My NB 927s size turned out to be 10 & 1/2 D for a perfect fit. NB shoes have many widths (that's the "D" in mine), and I was surprised at that because I'd have thought a size 10 M (Medium) width would have fit me but it turned out to be rather tight, so am very glad I went to the store for my 1st pair.
I bought a pair in white since the store didn't have tan in my size, but now that I know my NB 927 size & width, I can buy other colors (and other NB styles, too) online now quite a bit cheaper than they cost in the store. :)
They don't have a very high arch, but you can simply slip your own arch-support orthotic inside if you like. The footpads are very comfortable but are removeable so you can pretty much customize the insides. I wore Birkenstocks for years & I have about a medium-high arch, but even without putting any arch-supports in these I can wear them very comfortably for several hours at a time.
Oh, and this shoe will still fit fine after surgery in 2 months, in case you're in the same situation & are wondering about that. I know this because I had the exact same surgery done on my other big toe 2 years ago and the shoe fits that foot just right also.
Hope this review helps anyone with "hallux rigidus/limitus"! You will love these shoes and will be able to walk so much more lightly & for much longer periods of time without that terrible pain once you start wearing these.

Update, 4 weeks later:
These have helped my hallux rigidus condition so much that I don't think I'll even have to get the foot surgery this summer after all! Looks like I can get along just fine for at least another year with these shoes & a cortizone shot every 2 - 3 months. Couldn't have asked for anything better and will soon buy another pair in tan, and most likely get black 927s in the Fall. Can't say enough good things about this shoe for anyone who has the same arththritic toe condition.
I was so excited... April 24, 2010 Sally Lee (PA, US) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
when my sneakers came in the mail. I have a lot of pain in my ankles and feet so it makes it difficult for me to go to the mall and shop. I really wanted an all white pair of sneakers, and my podiatrist swears by NB, "the higher the number, the better for your feet". So I ordered these in what I know to be my normal sneaker size and waited with anticipation. They arrived within five days! I immediately unpacked them, tried them on and took them on a test walk (a slow stroll around my block).
These sneakers fit perfectly and are amazingly comfortable, even with my orthodic inside of them. It's always risky buying shoes online, but this is one risk that paid off!

Very Dissatisfied With the 927 May 17, 2010 C. Zodda (New York, New York United States) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is the first time I have written an unfavorable review for any New Balance Shoes. They have always been a favorite of mine, especially the 926s. Those were the best, and so I was expecting the same from the 927s. For some unkown reason, I have been experiencing severe pain in my left foot when wearing these shoes. It also seems, for whatever reason, to be cutting off my circulation. I have checked and the size is correct - just for some reason, my foot seems to be getting numb when wearing them. Also, there is supposed to be some great kind of odor resistant technology in the 927, but, I have to say, I have never had what I like to call "sneaker feet" as bad as I have with the 927s! Just awful! I also suspect this shoe will not last as long as my 926s. I wish they still had the 926s in my size - I wouldn't hesitate to buy them. But the 927s - THUMBS DOWN!
